From: Milton Wolf <wolf_at_crlmail.uchicago.edu>
CRL is considering establishing several new positions of a type we have not
had in the past: Program Officers. The role of the Program Officer at CRL
would be both to articulate the various collections to its members and also
to
provide program services that assist in integrating its more than 5 million
volume collection of unique information resources into the daily operations
of its membership.
We envision several Program Officer positions: one in Newspapers and Area
studies, one in the Humanities and Social Sciences and one in the
Science/Technology area. The Center for Research Libraries is an
international not-for-profit consortium that operates the nation's oldest
cooperative research library, and its membership consists of major
universities, colleges and research libraries.
To help us explore and clarify our position, we would be very interested in
hearing from you and talking with individuals who have experience and/or
interest in Program Officer positions. We would like to arrange to talk
informally at the upcoming ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia, at the ACRL
meeting in Detroit, or at the ALA summer meeting in New Orleans. Or, just
send an e-mail message with your thoughts to me directly. Thanks.
