The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library of the University of Virginia is
seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for the design and
development of a coherent, high-quality collection development program for
the Health Sciences Library.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for the management of the materials budget for serials, books,
audiovisuals and electronic resource expenditures. Chairs the Library's
Collection Development Committee. Develops and maintains communication
linkages throughout the Health Sciences Center community and the University
to ensure necessary input relating to collection needs.
Performs analysis of collection usage and monitors trends in the field.
Serves as the point person for vendor contract negotiation and relations.
Serves as the key negotiator for licensing agreements relating to
electronic resources and participates in University and statewide licensing
initiatives as needed. Monitors new technologies in the field of
electronic resources and state-of-the-art document delivery. Performs
analysis of options
and makes recommendations for new document delivery services or innovative
procurement of materials. Contributes to the profession through publication
or service. Reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Management
and Access Services.
Required:
ALA accredited MLS; two years experience working in a health sciences
library environment, preferably with experience selecting collection
materials or providing reference services. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. Commitment to service and teamwork.
Preferred:
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment. Knowledge
of issues and trends relevant to the health sciences. Knowledge of the
trends and issues relevant to health sciences publishing, both print and
electronic. Membership in the Medical Library Association's Academy of
Health Information Professionals desirable.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary minimum: $35,000. General faculty rank (non-tenure), 22 vacation
days and 11 holidays annually, health, dental and disability insurance,
retirement contribution to TIAA CREF or other programs. Generous moving,
