	We are soon to go to bid on a major library renovation and
expansion project.  Included is approximately 2,000 linear feet of
compact shelving which we will be using for our periodical and
government document collections.  We have done fairly extensive research
into the types and uses for compact systems including visits to several
installations currently in use.  We investigated three types of systems;
mechanical assist (which is a manual system - least cost), power assist
(which has some electonic safety and operational features), and fully
programmable.
