We are interested in starting a collection of circulating multimedia
CD's and would like to pose several questions to members of the list
hoping someone may have some answers. We are a municipal library with
two branches. We serve a population of approx. 52,000 along with being
a resource for a seven county library system. Our questions are:
1. What is a good size for a start-up collection? (we thought 50)
2. What would be a good growth size - do we want several hundred,
several thousand? We are only planning on providing educational type
CD-rom products.
3. For those with established collections, how much do you budget per
year and what do you use as an average cost per item?
4. Are DVD's going to replace CD-roms - in other words, if we buy them
do you think it can be a viable collection for a number of years?
Any answers would be appreciated. Please reply directly to me. If
there is any interest I will summarize for the list.
