Dear List Members,
We have been approached with a request from a department chair to supply
free photocopies to faculty for research purposes. Free in this case means
paid for by the library. How many libraries out there provide this for
faculty? If it's done, how is it administered, monitored, and what funds
are used. Is anyone using collection funds to subsidize photcopies of
materials not owned by library, but are received through interlibrary
loan.? How would the copyright law apply to this? Is the library
responsible for any possible violation of the law if it pays for the
photocopies, but does not do the copying? One of the reasons for the
faculty member to request this is the short time period a book can be kept
when received through ILL. A photocopy would allow the faculty member to
have permanent access to needed research material. Thank you for any
thoughts, reactions, information on this.
