POSITION: Science/Technology, Social Sciences,
Humanities Collection Coordinators
APPOINTMENT RANK: Assistant or Associate Professor depending on
experience, qualifications
SALARY: Minimum $35,000
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The LSU Libraries is restructuring collection
development and seeking three experienced professionals
to reshape collection operations. These coordinators will
work with the Collection Development head to develop
and promote traditional and innovative collection services
within the library and on campus. Collection coordinators
will supervises library liaisons to academic departments
who have 40% CD responsibilities. The coordinators will
report to the CD head for 80% of assigned duties and to
the head of Reference Services for the remaining 20%.
Responsibilities include collecting in and
managing subject collections in all formats; supervising,
training, and mentoring liaisons, outreach and instruction
activities; coordinating development of worldwide web
based resources for research guides; facilitating
communication with the campus community about library
services and collection management issues;. allocating
and managing funds in relevant disciplines; planning,
implementing, evaluating projects to improve
management of approval plans, journal costs, and budget;
providing general and subject specific reference assistance
(20%). Some evening and weekend duty may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA accredited MLS degree. 3 - 5 years
relevant experience in positions of increasing
responsibility at an academic or research library; degree or
substantive experience in related subjects in: Humanities -
English and/or American literature, linguistics, foreign
languages, speech, theater, music, architecture, design,
religion, philosophy, art; Sci/Tech - Life Sciences,
Physical Sciences, Agriculture, etc.; Social Sciences -
history, sociology, geography, anthropology, education,
political science, psychology, business related courses,
mass communication or journalism. Experience with print
and electronic resources; strong computer skills.
Knowledge of electronic journals, scholarly literature, and
publishing trends. Evidence of excellent communication
and presentation skills. Demonstrable service orientation
and understanding of library services in a research
university. Ability to work collegially with all levels of
users and staff and to fulfill faculty requirements for
promotion and tenure.
Preferred (or desirable): Professional or preprofessional
collection development experience. Advanced degree in a
appropriate subject area. Ability to create and maintain
worldwide web resources. Grant writing skills. Evidence
of research or creative achievement.
