"Who Will Archive Electronic Journals; The 64 Million Dollar
Question"
· Research Libraries? Or are the costs of storage and access too
great in today's higher education budget climate?
· Publishers? They haven't been asked to play an archival role in
the print world; should they now? If so, what does that mean for
users in terms of access?
· Vendors? Thus far, only one major vendor has made a commitment
to fulfill an archival role; are there more out there?
· Library Consortia? Cooperative library initiatives are growing in
popularity and strength around the world. Is archiving another possible
collective function that they could fulfill?
An outstanding panel of experts will kick off what promises to be a lively
discussion on these questions and more. Librarians, vendors, publishers and
other interested parties are invited to participate and exchange ideas.
