Corporate mergers are an ever more prevalent phenomenon in the
publishing and information industry. Author and social critic Mark
Crispin Miller will discuss the impact of media conglomerates on
the free exchange of ideas between writers and readers. Miller's
series of articles on the topic appeared recently in THE NATION
(including "The Crushing Power of Big Publishing," vol. 264,
March 17, 1997). Librarian panelists John Buschman and Sheila
Intner will respond to Miller's comments. Questions from the
audience will follow panel comments.
