Why don't you contact LC's African/Asian Acquistions & Overseas Operations
Division. (202-707-5273)? While they can't "recommend" any vendor over
another they will probably share information on their list. Many of the
contacts are probably "local" as they have a Field Office in Cairo.

Both Susan Peters and Jane Treadwell forwarded to me your inquiry. We deal
with the following vendors:
Leila Books (in Cairo) below is a paste of all the necessary details for
contacting them. They also have a website and are on email. We have
estblished an approval plan with them and it seems to be working real well.
The Director is George Fawzy, who is an energetic and very efficient and
conscientious businessman. He has very capable staff, too:
Office: 39 Kasr El Nil Str.-Office 12, Cairo, Egypt;
Tel.: 3924475-3934402-3507399; Fax: (00202) 3924475;
Bookshop: 17 Gawad Hossny St., Cairo, Egypt;
E-mail: leilabks@intouch.com; http://www.leila-books.com;
* Postal Address: P.O.Box 31 Daher, 11271 Cairo, Egypt.
The other vendor we deal with is Sulayman's Bookshop in Beirut. They are
long established and have been dealing for many years with all the
institutions in the U.S. who collect in Arabic. Their system is that they
send a printout of the latest imprints (mostly Lebanese) and you will have
to check the items you want and send same back to them. Up until very
recently these printouts used to be in Arabic. Now, since they have
improved their systems, they have changed these to transliterated English
language script. Also recently they acquired email capability and you can
reach them at the following email address:
SULBOOK_at_cyberia.net.lb
The owner is Muhammad Sulayman, who is a graduate of University of
Michigan.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
