Special Assistant for Collection Development
Research Libraries Administration
As part of The New York Public Library's Research Libraries
Administration and under the direction of The Deputy Director,
develops, recommends and coordinates collection development policies
and activities throughout the service divisions of The Research
Libraries. This includes selector training, project studies and
analysis, program documentation and evaluation. Provides analytical
support for allocating and monitoring book funds and book budgets.
Coordinates collection management activities with the Preservation
Division; plays a major role in preparing grant and other funding
proposals based on collection descriptions and activities. Works with
both internal and external library groups on collection development
activities.
Qualified candidates must possess an ALA accredited MLS and at least
five years increasingly responsible experience in a large academic or
research library. Substantial experience in all aspects of collection
policy development, evaluation or assessment. Demonstrated knowledge
of bibliography, research trends and publishing as well as substantial
experience in the selection of library materials. Working knowledge
of Western European languages for bibliographic purposes. Experience
with budgeting and accounting systems, PC-based software, statistical
techniques and database searching.
