Colleagues,
Last year a small committee from the Humanities and Social Sciences
Division at the Library of Congress queried COLLDV-L [COLLDV-L no. 1329] to
learn how librarians are using the Internet for collection development
purposes. We received a number of substantive responses and many more
asking us to
share our findings.
We are pleased to let you know that the results of our
committee's work have been compiled into a handbook, Collection
Development and the Internet: A Handbook for Recommending Officers in the
Humanities and Social Sciences Division of the Library of Congress. The
HANDBOOK may be found at:
http://lcweb.loc.gov/acq/colldev/handbook.html
Links to the sites discussed were all in working order as of December
1997. While the handbook was written specifically for LC staff use, we
believe its substance is sufficiently broad to provide useful information
to many librarians involved in collection development work.
Many thanks to all who provided suggestions and input,
Carolyn Larson
