PHYSICAL SCIENCES LIBRARIAN. Iowa State University Library.
Subject specialist in the Science and Technology Department,
performing reference, instruction and collection development
activities in the physical sciences. Conducts in-depth consultations
in science and technology disciplines, with emphasis on the physical
sciences, at both the main library and the Physical Sciences Reading
Room; develops course-related instructional sessions and services in
the physical sciences; participates in collection
development/management activities in designated subject areas in the
physical sciences; acts as liaison with faculty, students, and staff.
Works at the General Reference Desk in the main library. Some evening
and weekend hours are required.
Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Degree in
the physical sciences OR one or more years of experience in
reference/collection development in the physical sciences and related
sciences. Commitment to public services; ability to work effectively
with all levels of university clientele; flexibility in adapting to
change; commitment to a consultative/participatory style of
management; ability to meet promotion and tenure standards; and
effective communications skills. Preferred: At least two years
experience in science reference/collection development or an advanced
degree in the physical sciences. Knowledge of database searching
(particularly STN, Beilstein, and DIALOG); ability to build and manage
research library collections in the physical sciences; experience
developing and delivering discipline related instructional sessions.
Proposed start date: June 1, 1998. Salary: $28,500 minium, depending
