Our graduate library of the social sciences and humanities is looking
into discontinuing the circulation of journals. I would be
interested in hearing of the experiences of other libraries who have
done this (or have recently done the reverse) in regards to budgetary
impact and user response, in particular. Thanks.

We will soon be merging circulation with the main library, which does not
generally circulate periodicals. Would you be kind enough to share the
responses you receive with me? Thanks in advance, Sandra

Our library has had an awkward history with this issue. Some journals do
& some do not circulate. (Is anyone else in this pickle.) I have tried
getting the policy changed, but no one has been willing to devote the
staff time to both changing records & stamping Non-circ in bound volumes.
I am just about to propose making title-by-title changes as individuals
complain about circulating titles. Also, everyone is told that the
default is Non-circ.
