ALCTS/CMDS Collection Development Librarians in Academic Libraries
Discussion Group
Saturday January 10, 2:00 - 4:00
New Orleans Convention Center - 36
Topic: Outsourcing Selection in Academic Libraries
Although there has been much recent discussion of outsourcing, scant
attention has been paid to the collections implications of our growing
dependence on vendors. More libraries are adopting approval plans and
more are receiving books shelf-ready. This session will provide a
forum for discussion of the expanding role of vendors in selecting
books for academic libraries.
Discussion leaders: Edward Shreeves, Director, Collections &
Information Resources, University of Iowa Libraries and Charles
Willett, Coordinator, Alternatives in Print Task Force of ALA's Social
Responsibilities Round Table, Editor, Counterpoise and Publisher,
Crises Press.
