Hello!

We found a large amount of discarded cdroms in our storage and
instead of trashing them, I use to have a contact for a company
that would take them and recycle. Anyone out there have a contact
or a name of a company that will take discarded cdroms?

     Thanks!

In response to a request for companies which recycle CD-ROMS, here's a
posting I saved from last year. Hope this helps you out. I have not
used any of the companies listed below but I plan to in the near future.

<AUTOCAT_at_UBVM.CC.BUFFALO.EDU>

Greetings, Autocatters! So many people asked for a summary of the
informa-
tion I received on recylers that I have compiled it below. I received
numerous responses (thank you, thank you)...but they can be summarized
as three vendors for recycling of CD-ROMs and one vendor for recycling
fiche.

Recycling CD-ROMS:
1. Digital Audio Disc Corporation
    Attention: Disc Recycling Program
    1800 North Fruitridge Avenue
    Terre Haute, IN 47804-1788
    Technical Support Number: 1-800-776-6939

Instructions: They will recycle paper sleeves, shrinkwrap, caddies
or jewel cases in addition to CD-ROM discs; but, they must be
separated and the packages used to ship them to DADC marked as
follows: "Clean" - CD-ROM discs only
"Dirty" - CD-ROM discs, jewel cases, envelopes, shrinkwrap
(Note: I received several messages about this
company and "clean" vs. "dirty." Some said
"clean" was discs and jewel cases. I'd call
the technical support number before shipping.)

2. NE-SAR Systems
    420 Ashwood Drive
    Darlington, PA 16115

    Instructions:
    1. Send whole discs only, do not cut.
    2. Scratch the disc with a sharp object on the front and back.
    3. Ship discs without any packaging. Do not send paper/plastic
sleeves, paper inserts, mailing labels, mailing envelopes, etc.
    4. Ship discs in packages less than 50 lbs.
    5. Cost of shipping is your responsibility.

3. This organization recycles computer equipment, including CD-ROMs,
and this is all the information sent about them:
        Gordon.Gillesby-1_at_tc.umn.edu.
        The organization is called DRAGnet.
