Our state-supported college is undergoing a change in mission, from a
"comprehensive" regional institution to one with a state-wide liberals arts
mission. We are in need of additional resources to develop an appropriate
collection. In light of this fact, we are looking for articles, research,
projects and experiences which illustrate methods for liberal arts "core
curriculum" collection development. (We are already searching the literature.)
We have and use "Books in College Libraries," and are in the process of
doing a literature search as well. But we didn't want to try to reinvent
the wheel if others have been in similar situtations.
Some in-house ideas have been to:
-create "current" core title lists from course syllabi used here,
and
-to indentify "standard" textbooks used by institutions already serving a
public liberal arts mission and use those textbooks' bibliographies to
identify current (in-print) sources
Any advice from those in similar situations would be appreciated!
