Hello to all:

I am not sure this is the appropriate mail-list to post this question, but
here goes. We are a small-medium sized public library with a space
problem. We are working at 89% shelving capacity. We are considering an
expansion of the library, but are not sure we should go to the expense
until we consider all options. One of the options to consider is capping
the collection at its current level. This would mean coming up with
collection growth plan for the forseeable future.

Has anyone created such a plan with the intent of freezing a collection. If
not, can you direct me to a library who has, or at least some literature in
the area?

What might the elements of the plan contain? What should we consider in
drafting such a plan.

We have a very general materials selection policy and we probably would
graft such a growth plan to this policy. I envision that it would have
various criteria and/or formulas of purchasing (and weeding) by Dewey
number.

TIA,
