English Literature Bibliographer
Collections and Information Resources Division
Librarian to serve as bibliographer for American, British, and Commonwealth
literature, to serve as a bibliographic specialist for rare, out-of-print,
and brittle materials, and to provide general reference service at the
Perry-Castaņeda Library Reference Desk. Collection responsibilities
include selection of print and electronic materials, faculty and student
liaison, collection development and evaluation, library instruction, and
management of materials funds. Reference responsibilities include serving
on the library's main reference desk as part of a team of professionals and
paraprofessionals. Division responsibilities include maintaining an
extraordinary and wide-ranging depth of knowledge about the publishing
industry, publishing issues, and the history of the book, and serving as a
library-wide staff resource in these areas, coordinating the Division's
preservation replacement and reformatting efforts including liaison with
the Preservation Department, managing the library-wide monographic
replacements and reformatting fund, initiating and participating in the
development of electronic text opportunities, liaison with the University's
separately administered rare books collection, the Harry Ransom Humanities
Research Center, and participating in the Division's print and web
publishing activities. This position reports to the Head Librarian,
Collections and Information Resources Division (CIRD).
The English Literature Bibliographer participates in Collections and
Information Resources Division planning, actively fosters staff
collaboration and communication across departmental and divisional lines,
and responds to new opportunities with initiative, creativity, and
leadership. Other collection development responsibilities may be added in
the future.
The Perry-Castaņeda Library is the main library of the University library
system with emphasis on social sciences, humanities, business, and

and enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduates, 100 masters, and 100
doctoral students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program; two
years professional library work experience; degree or collection
development experience in English literature; broad knowledge or experience
in publishing and the book world; experience with reference service,
instruction, and electronic resources.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated effective public speaking,
teaching, interpersonal, writing, and analytical problem-solving skills;
demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collegial and
collaborative manner in a fluid technical environment; strong service
orientation; ability to meet challenging situations with flexibility and
tact; four years professional library work experience; demonstrated
potential for leadership in university, state, national, and international
programs and initiatives.
The salary range is $30,000 to $35,000 or more, depending on
qualifications. No state or local income tax. Competitive benefits
