                               Position Vacancy

Title:  Reference and Collection Development Librarian for the
Health Sciences

Description: Subject specialist for the health sciences assigned to
the Science Reference Center, Bobst Library. Librarians serve as
partners in the educational mission of NYU by establishing strong
relationships with the faculty and students, building appropriate
subject collections, and acting as intermediaries to the world of
information.  Responsibilities include provision of information
service to patrons within and outside Bobst Library, user education,
management and selection of resources in all formats in assigned
subject areas, and liaison with NYU faculty and students and the NYU
Medical Center library.  Reference librarians also perform
administrative duties in support of the unit's mission.   Subject
responsibilities include nursing, medicine, and allied health
sciences.

New York University Libraries:  Library facilities at New York
University serve the school's 50,000 students and faculty and
contain more than 4 million volumes.  The Elmer Holmes Bobst Library
houses 3 million of these volumes and serves as the University's
principal research resource.  New York University is a member of the
Research Libraries Group and serves as the administrative
headquarters of the Research Library Association of South Manhattan,
a consortium which includes three academic institutions in Greenwich
Village.

Qualifications:  ALA accredited MLS, subject masters degree required
for tenure. Two years of successful public service experience in a
relevant academic, health science or special library.  Experience
with print and electronic library resources and services, electronic
information retrieval, Internet and other electronic resources and
user education.  Graduate work in the life or health sciences
preferred.  Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong
service orientation.

Salary/Benefits:  Faculty status, attractive benefits package
including five weeks annual vacation.  Salary commensurate with
experience and background.  Minimum: $34,000.
