RUSA CODES Dual Assignments Discussion Group

Panel and Discussion Session

Saturday, June 28, 1997 9:30-11:00 am
Westin St Francis, Essex Room

TOPIC STATEMENT

The ever-increasing number of electronic resources raises complex
questions about library collection development and the provision of
library services. Organizational changes must occur to accomodate these
new technologies and ensure user access to the information they offer.
This discussion will focus on two major issues:

How can/should library organizations best support the successful
integration of electronic resources into the collections? What
organizational changes need to be made? Who should be involved?

How can/should libraries best provide access to electronic
materials? What management issues are involved? What cataloging issues
need to be addressed? How do reference librarians meet the demands these
new resources make?
