Colleagues,
A small group of librarians in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Division of the Library of Congress is investigating ways to use the
Internet for collection development. We are interested in hearing how
other librarians are using this source to supplement traditional
collection development and acquisition methods. We are curious about
general ideas on this topic as well as specific examples.

We have noted the reference in the article by Peggy Johnson, "Collection
Development and the Internet," in "Collection Management and Development:
Issues in an Electronic Era" (1993), to an earlier survey on COLLDV-L on
how the Internet was being used in collection development, at which time
email was the major use cited. We are especially interested in learning in
what ways the situation may have changed in the last few years. Please
reply directly to Carolyn Larson at clar_at_loc.gov.

Many thanks for your assistance.
