"Collection Assessment in the Library without Walls"
Collection Development Librarians of Academic Libraries Discussion Group
Saturday, February 15, 2-4 p.m.
Grand Hyatt, Independence D & E
As electronic resources become a larger part of our collections, the
questions of how we assess our collections in the age of the virtual
library becomes increasingly important. We wonder not only what our
collection really is, but how traditional assessment measures can be
applied to it.
The Heads of Collection Development of Academic Libraries Discussion Group
will have a panel of three librarians address aspects of this topic as an
preface to an audience discussion. Ross Atkinson, Associate University
Librarian, Cornell University Library, will take a look at the conceptual
framework of the virtual library. Tony Ferguson, Associate University
Librarian, Columbia University Library, will discuss how the conspectus
definitions are being expanded to include electronic resources. Tim Jewell,
ARL Visiting Program Officer for Electronic Resources, and Head, Electronic
Information Program, University of Washington Libraries, will talk about
ARL's efforts to study and measure its member libraries' investments in
electronic resources. The discussion group will meet from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
on Saturday, February 15. Check your conference program for possible room
changes.
