                        Assistant Director for Collection Management
                                                and Technical Services


Responsibilities:  Provides leadership and management for knowledge
resource management, acquisition and leasing of information resources,
cataloging, and indexing.  Responsible for managing collections and
services within the framework of the Library's mission and the Institute's
research, instructional, and archival programs.  The goals are to provide
information resources to support Institute programs and user access to the
intellectual content of resources in all formats, available locally and
remotely.  Actively participates in development and implementation of
digital library.  Collaborates with Archives, Information Services, and
other Library departments.  Particpates in local, regional, and state wide
programs.  The position is one of four Assistant Directors and reports to
the Associate Director.  The Technical Services Unit includes 6
professionals and 17 support staff.

The Library:  The Library and Information Center is central to the
Institute's instructional and research programs.  The Library's mission is
customer focused.  The Library is innovative in information delivery,
training, and customer services.  The Georgia Institute of Technology with
13,500 students and 1400 faculty is one of the nation's outstanding
universities with numerous nationally recognized programs in science and
technology.

Qualifications:

Required:

1.      ALA accredited graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years experience
in managing all phases of automated technical services and collections in
an academic or special library.

2.      Commitment to customer service, flexibility, creativity, and
willingness to take on innovative projects.

3.      Commitment to efficiency, productivity, and quality work.

4.      Working knowledge of automated technical services including
database construction, acquisitions, accounting, and serials control.

5.      Verifiable record of effective supervisory, managerial,
communications, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

1.      Experience with SIRSI systems, electronic libraries, and preservation.

2.      Experience with digitization projects.


Salary and Benefits:

        Salary is competitive and cmmensurate with experience.  Librarians
are members of the General Faculty, ineligible for tenure.  Standard
benefits include:  21 days of vacation; 12 holidays; TIAA-CREF or state
retirement plan; health and life insurance plans.
