I will be searching the literature on the topic, but wanted to poll this
group for suggestions and any anecdotal experience available on the
following:

BACKGROUND: Rice University has provided cost-of-living increases to
Fondren Library's materials budgets for the last 5 years; our
administration is sweetening the pot this year (FY98) with a promise of 2%
(or greater) real increase for the base allocation.

THE ISSUE: We are being asked to develop plans for a standing committee
on serials review (with an eye to containing costs). We have had a
standing library advisory committee for some time but this group has not
been a source for input at this level of planning.

Do you have experience with such an advisory committee (either as a
separate entity or as your Library Committee)? I would welcome
suggestions and would really appreciate the opportunity to talk with
anyone who has (or has had) such a group.
