We are a fairly large university library with a program in education that
is graduate only (M Teaching, MEd, PhD, EdD). Our collection focus has been
on research journals, ERIC documents, and a research-oriented monograph
collection. Recently, however, the faculty involved in several masters'
programs have requested that we assemble, essentially de novo, a
broad-based curriculum collection of teachers' editions, kits, multimedia
sets, etc. They have also requested that we construct an ongoing collection
of significant children's literature.

Is anyone aware of some labor-saving methods of accomplishing these two
tasks, such as approval program or standing order programs? Other advice
for assembling such collections swiftly, efficiently (and inexpensively)
would be welcomed.
