Call for Reporters: Charleston Conference

The Charleston Conference has grown in size and depth to the extent that it
is no longer possible for a single reporter to cover the presentations and
activities adequately. Those in 1996, _LAPT_ will be taking the approach
of covering the individual sessions of the conference with a series of
reporters. _LAPT_ has always made an effort to cover many of the programs
and discussion groups at the ALA conferences related to our scope. These
brief reports are written by members of the editorial board as well as
volunteer reporters. This is the same approach we will be taking to this
year's Charleston Conference. Thus, I am soliciting your help and interest
in covering any of these programs and discussion groups. Rather than
recreate the Charleston schedule in this announcement, please see the
complete listing at www.against-the-grain.com.

Reports are published much like the Review Section in _LAPT_. The reports
are published in a single combined article with each report having a
separate byline. Each author receives reprints and proofs of their section
for review. Reports are generally 2-6 double-spaced pages depending on the
content of the meeting covered. I encourage reporters to cover the content
and points made by the speakers so that these reports are useful to readers
who could not attend the conference. In some cases, lengthy programs might
warrant longer reports. By way of example, the most recent issue of the
journal, volume 20, no. 3 includes the reports from last year's ALA
Midwinter conference.

If you are interested in covering any of the programs and discussion groups
which follow, please respond via e-mail (diedrichs.1_at_osu.edu) as soon as
possible. Your finished report would be due to me on 12-15-96. Two
printed copies are needed plus a copy on disk in ASCII format or preferably
WordPerfect 6.1.

Thanks in advance for your help.
