All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

Description:

For most libraries, door counts have reached or surpassed pre-pandemic
levels. Demand for quiet study spaces has increased significantly, with
people seeking cozy nooks that shield them from distractions. Whether
you’re attempting to provide collaboration rooms, study booths, or
individual pods, planning for quiet study spaces in your library can be
formidable. What type of space do you need? How can you plan for change,
knowing change is inevitable? How can you use library budgets wisely to
create flexible, efficient spaces? In this panel discussion, we'll review
case studies from academic and public libraries who've implemented a
variety of quiet study spaces. We'll hear from design professionals who'll
share real-world building code challenges and share insights for your
library.

Learning outcomes:

As the end of this session, participants will be able to:

   -

   Describe opportunities, barriers, and solutions available for libraries
   when considering additional quiet spaces for small groups or individuals.
   -

   Review common building code requirements when implementing new quiet
   spaces and common pitfalls when implementing quiet study solutions.
   -

   Review project examples, including cost comparisons, for products and
   solutions that illustrate successful implementation of quiet study spaces.

Through real-world examples, this program will share lessons learned from
academic and public libraries who’ve observed patrons’ usage of various
quiet study spaces and implemented quiet study spaces under their
leadership.

Who should attend?

Librarians and building facilities management personnel interested in
improving acoustic performance of existing spaces or interested in creating
quiet spaces in their libraries.

Presenters:

Matt McClain is the Associate Director of Community Engagement at the Salt
Lake County Library.

Frank Allen is Senior Associate Director of Administrative Services at the
University of Central Florida.

Will Cook is Facilities Manager at the University of North Carolina
Greensboro.

Barak Yaryan is Architect and Library Designer at Shepley Bulfinch.

Antone Sgro is Architect and Library Leader at RATIO.
