The Untold Story of Black Librarians. This webinar will explore the historical challenges and triumphs faced by Black librarians—from segregated libraries and systemic barriers to their role in advocating for intellectual freedom and social justice. Discover how their legacy not only transformed library services but also continues to inspire community empowerment and cultural preservation today. Featuring behind-the-scenes insights, archival discoveries, and expert commentary, the session will provide a comprehensive look at how this documentary brings untold stories to light and why preserving these narratives is crucial for future generations. In this webinar, Rodney Freeman will share his insights on the making of the documentary, the significance of Black librarians in shaping communities, and the ongoing journey toward equity in library services.

About the Presenter: Rodney Freeman is the visionary behind Are You A Librarian? The Untold Story of Black Librarians and serves as the Director and Producer of the documentary. As a Digital Production Librarian and Archivist at UNC Charlotte's J. Murrey Atkins Library, Rodney has dedicated over 15 years to preserving underrepresented narratives and championing intellectual freedom. Through his work with Reminisce Preservation, LLC, he has skillfully merged archival research with compelling storytelling to document the historical contributions and contemporary struggles of Black librarians. His passion for social justice and expertise in digital media have made him a leading voice in the movement to ensure that the legacy of Black librarianship is both recognized and celebrated.
