Assistant Director for Collection Management
Tennessee State University is a historically black university situated in urban Nashville. It is a Carnegie-level R2 institution, and it is designated as High Research. The university has forty-one bachelor's degree programs, 23 master's level programs and grants doctorates in eight disciplines.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries and Media Centers, the Assistant Director for Collections Management supervises the Libraries' collections in all formats and e-resource procurement.  This position oversees acquisitions, collection development, maintenance, serials management, and cataloging.  This librarian keeps abreast of developments in academic libraries. It collaborates with the Research and Instruction Department to provide exemplary service that meets the mission of the libraries and the university.  Tennessee State University's motto is "Think. Work. Serve." With that in mind, the Collection Management Department strives toward innovative ways to serve.
This position supervises the Head of Cataloging, the Cataloging and Interlibrary Loan Librarian, the Electronic Resources Librarian, two Senior Library Assistants, and one Library Clerk. Works closely with the Assistant Director for Operations and Planning and the Head of Technology, Assessment, and Systems.
The Assistant Director for Collection Management is a tenure-track position that can offer the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Job Duties
Position
*         Oversees $1.9 million budget that covers the development, maintenance, and assessment of the library's print and online collections.
*         Responsible for supervising e-resources procurement, including licensing agreements, access issues, product trials, etc.,
*         Monitors collections budgets and expenditures. Negotiates with vendors. Oversees acquisition processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
*         Will coordinate the Library Liaison program and serve as a Library Liaison for two academic programs
*         Responsible for information literacy instruction and/or embedded librarian activity within the assigned liaison department
*         Hire, train, and supervise, faculty, staff, and student assistants.
*         Plan and implement policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the workflow and work assignments in all areas of resource management.
Minimum Qualifications
*         Demonstrated managerial experience with budgets and personnel
*         Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences or equivalent.
*         5 or more years working in an academic library setting
*         Experienced with acquisitions and e-resources procurement including eBooks, databases, and streaming videos. Experience with vendor negotiations.
*         Experienced with integrated library systems (preferably Innovative Interfaces)
*         Experience with Library Liaison activities and possesses the ability to coordinate the work of peers.
*         Experience with information literacy instruction practices and issues.
*         Ability to conduct collection analysis using online tools.
Preferred Qualifications
*         Additional advanced degree
*         Experience in the management of information resources for both undergraduate and graduate programs
*         Familiar with scholarly publishing practices and open-access initiatives.
*         Excellent project planning and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
