The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for
the position of Electronic Resources Librarian in the Acquisitions &
Discovery <https://www.lib.ncsu.edu/staff/department/acquisitions-discovery>
department. Acquisitions & Discovery’s 6 librarians and 15 staff are
responsible for managing the Libraries’ approximately $12 million
collections budget, acquiring materials in all formats, negotiating license
agreements and contracts, and describing and maintaining access points to
facilitate discovery of the Libraries’ resources. Acquisitions & Discovery
librarians have been actively involved in the development of an e-resource
management system, E-Matrix <http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/e-matrix/>, and they
contribute to the Libraries’ internationally recognized innovations in
content management and discovery.

Responsibilities

The Electronic Resources Librarian negotiates licensing for and acquires
library materials in all formats, with an emphasis on e-book and streaming
video content. They assist in the management of e-resources from a variety
of acquisition models, including evidence-based, demand-driven, approval
plans, and package purchases. The position develops and documents
workflows, processes, and best practices to support e-resource lifecycles
within an electronic resource management system (ERMS) environment, and
manages discovery and administrative metadata for e-resources, including
creating, loading, updating, maintaining, and withdrawing records for
e-resources. The incumbent maintains close working relationships with
content providers, vendors, and consortial partners in support of
e-resource acquisitions and access. They are responsible for triaging and
troubleshooting monographic e-resource access problems.

As part of the department’s management team, they will participate in
establishing and defining projects, priorities, and goals, and will manage
e-resource projects including developing workflows and training staff. They
contribute to departmental projects and teams; and they collaborate and
work with colleagues across the Libraries to support acquisition,
licensing, discovery, and use of e-resources. The position deeply considers
how their approach to their daily work reflects and advances the Libraries’
Strategic Plan <https://www.lib.ncsu.edu/strategic-priorities>, creating an
environment and community that is welcoming for both patrons and colleagues
alike. They participate in library planning and serve on library-wide
committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians are expected to be active
professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. This
position reports to the Associate Head of Acquisitions & Discovery,
Monographs.

This position is based in North Carolina. This position is eligible for
flexible hours with a hybrid work environment based on departmental and
operational needs. This position will require some onsite work.

NC State University promotes an integrated approach to problem solving that
transforms lives and provides leadership for social, economic, and
technological development across North Carolina and around the world. NC
State’s land grant mission of teaching, research and service is dedicated
to the service of North Carolina and its people. Applicants are encouraged
to review the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan, and
consider how their background, interests, and experience would enable them
to support the university.
