The "Butterfly Effect" - Cascading Compassion Satisfaction in Library Land

Wednesday, August 2, 2023

2pm Eastern (11am Pacific | 12pm Mountain | 1pm Central)

Cost: Free

Description: This webinar will conceptually explore compassion satisfaction with a focus on helping (i.e., demonstrating empathy) given the multifaceted ways service is provided through professional roles and occupational duties within the library. As facilitators operating in a seemingly safe service entity, library practitioners overwhelmingly experience a multitude of adventuresome realities throughout their working lives. Generally, these tend to go unnoticed. In fact, these experiences can be associated with the latent manifestations of helping others. Oftentimes, the workplace/space and one's quality of life can be called into question. Correlatively, it is worthwhile to consider the significance of this concept in this sphere of enterprise. Perhaps, the question worth asking is: Could compassion satisfaction be a saving grace to library practitioners? Herein lies the opportunity to address:

  *   Helping
  *   Professional stress
  *   Representation burnout
  * In a nutshell this webinar, is above all else, about the impact of the ripple/cascading effects that occurs in the act of helping others as library practitioners enact their roles as service providers to meet the sundry needs of library users. It will:
  * Explore the concept of compassion satisfaction as sense-making for library practitioners
  * Show the dual nature of compassion satisfaction impacting the helping exchange transaction in library work
  * Examine the interplay of occupational dynamics: empathetic helping, professional stress, and representation burnout
