Hi, Everyone -
I'm reaching out to you as a representative of Core, ALA's newest division<http://ala.org/core>, which is the new home for collections and technical services within ALA.
ALA is shutting down its mailing list software this summer, which means we need to figure out the future of this list. From the Core perspective, there are 2 options to keep it going.
1. To continue as part of ALA and use ALA resources, we can migrate this list from the previous ALCTS Acquisitions Section (now defunct) to the Core Metadata & Collections Section as the Acquisitions Interest Group. This means the group would live in ALA Connect with our other interest groups<https://connect.ala.org/core/communities/all-core-groups/core-interest-groups> (IGs). Core lets anyone join our interest groups, so even non-ALA and non-Core members could still participate. The Connect group can be used much like a mailing list, where there's an email address you send messages to for distribution. Anyone who joins the group will receive emails be able to reply via email. The biggest caveat is that joining the group will mean having an ALA account, either a member one or a free non-member one. Also, promoting job listings and paid events is not allowed on Connect.
2. The other option is for someone on this list to find a new home for it with a different host outside of ALA. The deadline to move the list to the new host would be August 1, 2021.
In order to pursue option 1, we need someone to volunteer to chair the new interest group for 2021-22. Although anyone can join a Core IG, chairs must be Core members. If you're interested in helping this list continue under Core as an IG, please contact me at jlevine@ala.org<mailto:jlevine@ala.org>. You can learn more about how Core interest groups work and what you're committing to as a chair on our website<http://www.ala.org/core/member-center/interest-groups/about-interest-groups>.
If no one indicates any interest in chairing the group or moving it to a new host by the end of May, we will likely close the list in June.
I'm happy to answer questions about these options.
Thanks,
Jenny
