We have been quarantining shipments for 72 hours. (March 2020 to March 2021 – ugh).

I agree with others that the risk of transmission is exceptionally low. For us there is value in having the Acquisitions policy be consistent with what our Circulation and ILL folks do. They quarantine for 72 hours and so do we.

This really isn’t a problem for Acquisitions. Our receiving person works in the library Mondays through Wednesdays. Campus distribution delivers only once a week now, on Wednesdays, so by the following Monday when she unpacks them, the quarantine period is over. Other than the occasional hunt for a rush item, it has worked well.

Best,

Glenn

Hello. How long are you placing shipping boxes and envelopes in quarantine before your acquisitions staff unload the materials to begin the receiving/invoicing process? Do you also quarantine them once unboxed? I know that the REALM Project<https://www.oclc.org/realm/home.html> is offering data, but I would like a practical recommendation that seems to be working in libraries.

We have staff who are very concerned about the possibility of infection from COVID-19.

Thanks so much.
Christine
