Thanks for the question. It's one I've been thinking about.
We at TCNJ also use McNaughton, although at the lower level of about 200
titles. It is popular here as well, although much of the circulation
occurs among library staff.
So let me add to your question: How do you make selection decisions? and
do you market the collection? I select here mostly based on the "hot"
titles listed in Bibz but I do monitor circulation and tweak my choices
based on that. I find (for want of a better term) "chick lit" does very
well while current events/political stuff does not. Frothy biographies of
popular musicians and film stars also see good circulation. Our McNaughton
books are shelved in a special area along side selected new titles for our
regular collection. I have about four years of circulation data I'd be
glad to share that includes borrower type (undergraduate, grad student,
faculty).
