We are small like you, we have 6 librarians (which includes the director
and our archivist) and 5 staff members - 3 at the front desk (between the
three of them they cover weekends and evenings) and 2 in technical services
- one does cataloging and one does acquisitions. Do you have students
assisting in the physical processing of books? This is the area where we
have thought about employing students for additional help. I agree that
the complications in fulfilling and paying for orders are too complicated
for a student to accomplish. You might talk with your ordering vendors to
see if there are potential ways you could streamline your ordering to make
the work more efficient too. I feel your pain, when my acquisitions staff
member is out, I am responsible for paying bills and ordering items (this
only happens in cases of illness usually though).
