We are a smaller university as well (FTE ~2200) with 4 library staff and 3 student workers. The Acquisitions Librarian not only does acquisitions, but she also does ILL and Serials entry. When she is not available, I, as Director step in and do her work.

Subject: [ALCTS-acqnet] Question for small academic libraries
Dear colleagues,
We are a small (FTE 2000) liberal arts university with a Library staff (now) of about 14 (8 librarians, director, 5 staff,)plus 1 retiring acquisitons associate, 3 additional staff just let go, an admin shared with IT, and 4 Instructional Technology positions + 2 vacant IT positions under library director)
My question is- who performs your acquisitions functions? Administration has not approved replacing the retiring acquisitions person. She currently does firm orders, standing orders, streaming and physical media and gifts . Are there any libraries out there that do not have a staff acquisitions person? Do any have students performing these functions? We were hoping to at least get a part time position, but that will not happen either. It does not seem feasible to have either a full time librarian already responsible for electronic resources and collections perform these functions, or a student worker, who will be expending library funds. Our catalog associate, who could conceivably take it on, is already overburdened due to the fact that we have not had a cataloger for almost 2 years.
Thanks for the collective wisdom .
Kathy
