Our Acquisitions unit orders books for Special Collections, and the books are addressed to our department.   If the folks in Special Collections order supplies, however, the supplies are addressed specifically to that unit.   The basic address is the same, but since Acquisitions staff retrieve the mail, we can tell by the shipping label if it's something we ordered or not.


If books for Special Collections did not come to us in Acquisitions first, it would delay proper completion of the order process and delay the cataloging of the books.


We are a fairly small outfit.   The building is tall, but our staff size is not.


Hi, to Vanderbilt!   I spent most of the 1980s there, including some quality time working it the library!  Sylvia Martin, who retired a few years after I left, was the best supervisor I ever had.
