Hi Stacey. Answers to your survey:
1. We don't do shelf-ready. Our cataloguing queue is around six months long. Which is terrible, but better than it used to be. All books have at least brief bibs and are requestable. We check for holds daily and put them in the rush queue per the next answer below.
2+3. We have a rush cataloguing queue. When a book is identified in the receiving process as having a hold it goes straight to the rush shelf. A cataloguer is on rush duty each day, so they handle them and have them on the prep shelf by the next morning. Prep takes an hour, and they go down to the circ counter by noon. My staff figure the slowest this could ever take from receiving to the circ desk is about 27 hours. If the pickup point is one of the other campuses, that adds a day or two.

Subject: [ALCTS-acqnet] Turnaround time for books
Hello Acquisitions!
I’m interested in hearing what your turnaround for processing books is –
1. We get shelf ready books from our vendor – we copy catalog them so some go directly to circ, some diverted to cataloging for further work. What is your usual turnaround to get on the shelf for titles that fall in that category?
2. Books that come in with hold notifies attached to them. We treat them as rush – what is your usual turnaround for those to get to the circulation desk?
3. Books bought for ILL – we purchase books for ILL, they have a hold notify – again what is your usual turnaround to get the book to the circ desk?
