Primary Research Group has published the: Survey of Academic Library
Leadership: Outlook for the Library Budget, 2019 Edition, ISBN 978-157440-561-
3

The report presents data for library budgets over the past two years and
commentary from 118 academic library deans, directors and provosts about the
budget outlook for the library over the next two years. Data in the report is
presented in the aggregate and broken out by institutional enrollment, tuition
level, public/private status, type or Carnegie class and also by some personal
characteristics of the survey participants.

Just a few of this 52-page report’s many findings are that:

MA.PHD-granting colleges, research oriented but not research universities,
were perhaps the most pessimistic with nearly two thirds feeling it was not so
easy or not at all easy to get the funds they feel they need.

The library budgets of the junior college libraries in the sample for the
2018-18 academic year rose from a mean of $434,715 to $435,570 essentially
flat and a near 2% reduction in real terms accounting for inflation.

As the following table shows, the overwhelming majority of colleges sampled
felt that obtaining needed library resources was a struggle

Table 1.1 How easy is it to obtain the resources you need from the college or
university administration?
	                  No Answer	Extremely Very easy
Somewhat easy	Not so easy	Not at all easy
                                                easy
Entire sample	6.78%	0.00% 0.85% 31.36%
44.92% 16.10%
