Stanford Medicine is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to
fill the position of *Resource Management Librarian – Acquisitions and
Process Coordination* (Librarian 1). The successful candidate will work
closely with the Acquisitions Manager to acquire new resources (primarily
digital) and to ensure their rapid deployment. This involves coordination
of monographic acquisitions, serials workflow supervision (1+ FTE), and
work related to cataloging and metadata creation. Reporting to the Director
for Resource Management, the Resource Management Librarian will also
undertake special projects relating to process coordination and systems as
a member to the Resource Management department at the Lane Medical Library
and Knowledge Management Center.
Duties include:
- Processes user suggestions for purchase.
- Acquires library resources by searching, ordering, receiving, creating
claims and processing new acquisitions and gifts; creates/modifies records
(evaluating and selecting appropriate bibliographic and vendor records);
processes returns
- Determines appropriate vendor and decides which item(s) best match our
requirements.
- Verifies (determines whether invoice accurately and completely matches
order), prepares, and processes invoices and credit invoices; keeps
statistics for all payments.
- Manages gifts/donations intake of physical print materials.
- Organizes departmental files; scans documents; conducts related
projects during documentation process.
- Supervises Serials Specialist and part-time Library Specialist in
coordinating serials data management.
- Undertakes metadata projects, creating and maintaining
bibliographic and authority records as requested by Metadata Manager.
- Evaluates and maintains process continuity by communicating and
planning with Acquisitions Manager for assignments, and with the Digital
Materials Manager, Access Services and others to coordinate
interdepartmental processes, communicating diplomatically with the
various participants to achieve desired outcomes.
- Undertakes special projects or initiatives to address any issues
identified.
- Participates in the analysis of systems and processes.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of two years of related experience is required
- Strong communications skills, oral and written, and ability to work
effectively with diverse constituencies
- Library skills, preferably in using automated acquisitions systems and
database searching
- Thorough understanding of the bibliographic apparatus, both from data
management and user access perspectives
- Ability to multitask and to learn new systems and procedures quickly
- Ability to adhere to rigorous accuracy and thoroughness requirements
- Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team in an
environment with many interruptions
- Medical terminology sufficient to discern content relationships of
significance to our systems and services
- Ability to communicate both verbally in writing for understanding and
expressing complex topics effectively
- Computer skills: database programs (preferably library systems and
financial systems), word processing, spreadsheets, and comfort in dealing
with a variety of changing systems licensed for users
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience in providing customer support
- Potential for growth, in broader aspects of resource management.
- Knowledge of academic health sciences, preferably including related
subject expertise in the biosciences.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with
demonstrated understanding of academic libraries or a combination of
education and relevant experience.
