Like James, my libraries uses GOBI as our primary selection tools. It's great to have access to multiple review lists in the same interface, e.g. Choice, Doody's, Booklist.

However, we pay an annual fee to get the full GOBI tools. I'm not sure if any of these features, such as Choice reviews, are only included in this version of GOBI. If so, the annual fee may be a consideration for a small library -- just a caveat.

We use GOBI for most of our monograph orders and use many of their selection tools: bibliographer assigned categories (YBP Select, etc.), slip notifications, Spotlight lists (subject lists, Choice Recommends, awards lists, etc.).

We use Choice as well. We have campus-wide online access and we strongly encourage faculty to utilize the service. However, the majority of them do not. We get surprisingly few requests from faculty and I am puzzled by that. I'm not sure if they just trust us to get what is needed or if they don't have time to make requests.

We also use Library Journal and I keep an eye on the weekly New York Times Book Review. We primarily use Amazon for acquisitions so I look at recommendations there as well. Another thing I watch out for is the various annual book awards.

We have less than 900 FTE.

Hi Fatima,

That's how we do it too. :) In addition, we also use Library Journal. (we're a small campus)

Hi Everyone,

I was curious what resources/reviews everyone uses to help them in their decision making process when it comes to buying for their collection.

I currently use Choice and try to reach out to Faculty for feedback but would like to see what other institutions rely on and find helpful.

Thank you,
