We divide book funds among 4 large groups:

   - Arts & Humanities (35%)
   - Social Sciences (35%)
   - Science & Engineering (15%)
   - Interdisciplinary (15%)

The librarians for each group meet at the start of the budget year and
decide how to spend the money. They decide if there are any large purchases
that should be made up front, and how to divide the money. Subjects areas
with new faculty, degrees, or research areas may be given higher amount
than past years. Interim librarians may take less due to knowledge in the
area, but the permanent librarian in a future year get extra.

Each subject area still has a fund code. We own allocate to a fund code
representing one of the 4 groups and monitor the sum of the spend of the
specific subject funds. It allows librarians to renegotiate and make
changes throughout the year.

Thanks,
Brian
