Our library is subject specific and our research staff small, so this work is reasonable at our institution. For you, this might best be done by academic department. Choose one or two that generate publications.

I review all the publications of each scientist for each year, checking their cited references against our holdings to see how well we do in providing them with the resources they need. This includes online journal content, especially licensed content from commercial providers. For example, Dr. Smith published 2 articles in 2015. For the first article Smith cited 83 references and we hold 80 of those. The second publication was a chapter in a book and Smith cited 40 references of which we hold 38. We also hold the book Smith’s chapter is included in. So for Smith we provided 96% of the research resources (s)he used to produce scholarly content that results in potential tenue, grant revenue, critical acclaim for the organization. Especially for grant funded research this kind of measure can be tied to the financial returns for an organization, for example Dr. Smith received $23 million dollars in grants for 2 projects. The publications result from these projects and are reflective of Smith’s ability to generate revenue and for the library to support Smith’s research.

Hello Acquisitions colleagues

Have any of you been asked to show the value of Acquisitions or Technical Services for that matter in pictorial form? A chart, graph, pie, etc on the value of the work you do? If so, I'm looking for examples.
