I've always wanted to do a graphic that shows the size of our collection next to something like the Empire State Building. For instance, 100,000 books stacked up to the sky at 1 inch per book equals 8,333 ft. The Empire State Building is 1,454 feet tall.

So, the value would be to visually show how big of a collection your department manages.

Another thing I have seen on some receipts printed at public libraries is showing the $ saved by checking books out as opposed to buying them.

For tech services, we could show the cost of the books purchased in a year, and then multiply each book's price by the # of times it circulated, to show the combined cost savings to individuals who used the books.

So, you could somehow show: The library spent $10,000 on books this year. If all the people of Smith County who checked out a book instead bought their own copy, that would have come to $xyz,000. Look how much we saved the people of Smith County!

Hello Acquisitions colleagues

Have any of you been asked to show the value of Acquisitions or Technical Services for that matter in pictorial form? A chart, graph, pie, etc on the value of the work you do? If so, I'm looking for examples.
