The tech services staff transport bins of mail and library materials in the “golf cart” (enclosed vehicle which Facilities and Campus Safety folks use to cruise around campus). There’s a color coded bin system, and bins are left out in the main library mailroom for things being sent back to the tech services outpost. Postal mail and intercampus mail goes to the outpost, and our staff sort it and bring over mail to the main library.

Storage facility staff use a college minivan to reach the main library and the tech services outpost. There’s a steep hill in between campus and the storage facility. Also, they potentially have a higher quantity of items to transport, and more time sensitive as book requests are on a schedule. Another good reason to have a van there is the location, which is a bit seedy. You’re more secure in a minivan than a golf cart.

BTW our tech services outpost is in a renovated drycleaner/laundromat. The business was called “La Couture” but was quite down at the heels by the time the college bought it, so the name had become ironic. The college converted most of the first floor to very nice office space. We just refer to it as Couture now.

Hello All

You will probably be hearing from me a lot in the next month as our move is approaching and we are still trying to figure out logistics

For those of you off-site, how do you transport the material back and forth? Photos of work space would be much appreciated!

Stacey
