One of the things that helped when we made a major move at UMD many
years ago, as a surprise, the staff all received t-shirts with "I
survived the move!"
with a funny crazy looking moving van cartoon on the front. We all wore
them while we transported/unpacked/arranged our new work areas. This
brought a note
of fun and unity to a hard task and began the bonding to the new space.
You could declare the day you complete the move or shortly thereafter,
un-Waffle day, like an un-birthday, and repeat your usual waffle day
activities.
Door prizes--first in the door, first to set up their desk, first to
actually perform a work task, first to try out their new phone, chair
whatever, kind of moving day bingo. Prizes could be simple stickers,
with a grand prize( I once awarded a 3 pound bag of M & M's to the
person who guessed closest to the number of invoices we paid in a fiscal
year) for the most collected.
Are there other non-library people in the building, would a meet and
greet be appropriate at some point?
