We changed to the Business account a little while ago. They had also discontinued sending the extended e-mail confirmations prior to that and I explained basically the same issues to them.

I noticed that I am now receiving the detailed e-mails again and it is split up into the shipments and also lists the books included in each.

We also order 10-20 items at a time, and Amazon breaks the order up, charging our credit card for the items in each package. We relied on packing slips to know what the subtotals of the items that were packed within each box and to provide the required paperwork for the Business Office. Without packing slips, our admin assistant Xeroxes the box label and lists the books that were in each box, which we can then match up with the invoice we printed when we placed the order. It’s extremely time consuming and cumbersome—and there are no prices or subtotals.

Who remembers when Amazon sent an email confirmation when they shipped the items—and the email identified exactly which items were being shipped in which package? We printed that out and could match it up exactly with the package we received. Now they send an email saying they shipped part of the order, but it does NOT identify the specific items. I complained to Amazon when they stopped that practice, but they refused to address the issue and told me to use the packing slip in the box.

Now they are no longer sending a packing slip—I suggest as many people as possible should complain to Amazon and demand that if they will no longer send out a packing slip with each package, they should resume the practice of sending a “digital” packing slip in the form of an email. If their justification is that they are going green, then this would satisfy that requirement AND our needs.

And that it what I do. However, while that works well if all the materials on an invoice are being received, it’s less helpful when there are ten items on that invoice and you need to receive two now, you’ve received 3 two weeks ago and the remaining 5 are still on backorder. The PO number is on the bottom of the invoice, the material that you are receiving is in the middle and the total amount on the top is for ALL invoiced items.

I make it work, but it takes MUCH more time than when there were packing slips included with the shipments.

Printing invoices at the time of order is fine for tracking materials as they arrive, but as the price will often lower between order date and the date of shipment, the cost on an invoice printed at that time is not always the final price of the item. Pre-Order savings must be accounted for and adjusted.
