Apologies if this question is off the chart for this list.
We loaned out a very out of print book that only three N. American libraries have holdings, us being one. It is also not available for sale anywhere according to BookFinder.com. We were notified by the borrowing institution of a slight tea/coffee spill around the bottom edge of the book before we got it back. The spill is not on the text area. We have decide to pull the book from circulation and only make photo copies of needed sections upon request. However, we are wondering if we should charge the borrower a fee which I am certain that they would gladly pay. I am wondering what would your library do in a case like this? Would you charge a fee and if so how do you decide the amount, or would you let it slide?
