Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
REQUIRED
- Minimum of three years of professional library experience in monographic acquisitions
- Experience working with an integrated library system
- Knowledge of current practice, research and trends in acquisitions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience supervising, training, and mentoring staff
- Ability to foster a respectful, inclusive and diverse climate, working effectively with library users, colleagues, and vendors
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills

DESIRED:
- Experience acquiring monographic material in a variety of formats (such as print, audio-visual, and electronic) and coordinating a variety of methods (such as firm orders, approvals, and exchange programs) in an academic setting
- Experience working directly with a wide variety of vendors, both domestic and foreign
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and independently across departments and with a variety of groups within an organization in a rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and documenting changes in library technical service procedures
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and experience managing financial records

Principal duties:
The University of Wisconsin Madison General Library System (GLS) is seeking a dynamic, team oriented individual to manage monographic acquisitions services under the direction of the Assistant Director for Licensing and Acquisitions Services. The Acquisitions Librarian is responsible for the acquisition of monographic library resources in all languages and formats acquired from every area of the world. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with other managers in the department as well as colleagues in all areas of the GLS.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Participating in all aspects of acquisitions processes, providing leadership and expertise in monographic acquisitions
- Supervising 1 academic librarian, 4 university staff, and students, providing mentoring and training as necessary
- Overseeing and documenting monographic acquisitions workflows including ordering, receiving, and payment processes
- Creating and maintaining processes for the electronic transfer of order records and invoices
- Interacting with publishers and vendors to support the acquisition of materials for the Libraries' collections
- Monitoring financial commitments and payments
- Collaborating with colleagues across departmental lines such as cataloging, collection development, and information technology, to improve workflow design
- Engaging in quality control and the development of best practices
- Compiling and analyzing data for assessment and other statistical reports.
- Staying abreast of emerging trends and best practices related to acquisitions
- Participating in professional organizations focusing on areas of expertise and serving on relevant library and university committees
