Do you have a children’s / young adult collection to support a teacher preparation program? You may find that some of the nonfiction in that collection is useful. Even picture books may be of interest, given that the average reading level of a picture book is mid-4th grade level.
Check the series that you buy to support the perennial freshman comp pro-con essay assignments. Series like Opposing Viewpoints and Annual Editions often include accessible articles from major news sources. Most newspapers strive for a reading level of 6th to 8th grade.
Do they particularly need books? General interest magazines (Time, Forbes, Popular Science, etc.) may be good options. If you provide access to a periodical database aimed at K-12 students (perhaps through a statewide database package), they may find it useful as some of these databases allow filtering by reading level.
Good luck!

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Collection Development for ESL
Our English as a Second Language students are looking for easy to read books related to their majors (business, psychology, history, biology, etc.). We have biographies and stories that are high interest-low vocabulary, but not much in the various subject areas. Any ideas???
Thanks, Kitty
